Bumrah Runs Riot With 5-Wicket Haul & Reminds SA Why Messing With Him Was Huge Mistake

After India lost last week in Johannesburg, Jasprit Bumrah made a promise to the South African players that he would make their life hell in Cape Town.

“Abhi toh bohot uchhal rahe hain, jitna uchhalna hai uchhal lo. Ek test match baaki hai abhi. Batata hun Cape Town mein inko. Jisko sunna hai sun lo. (Let them enjoy their moment for now. Another match is left. I will show them in Cape Town),” Bumrah was heard saying on the stumps towards the end of the second Test match.

BOOM BOOM

The fast bowler was labelled as arrogant when he issued a strong warning to the Proteas and promised to make them pay for their antics during the second Test.

Back then, many had slammed the 28-year-old pacer for his behaviour and for issuing a threat to the opposition players. But Bumrah knew exactly what he was doing.

He didn’t say those words just to look cool or anything. Every single word that came out of his mouth reflected his resolve and determination to make things right in the third and final Test.

South Africa are all out for 210 (Bumrah 5/42)#TeamIndia with a 13-run lead going into the second innings.

And Bumrah delivered on his promise in style. As promised, he ran riot in Cape Town and picked up his seventh five-wicket haul in red-ball cricket. The Proteas batters, who dominated the play in the final innings of the Johannesburg Test, looked completely clueless against Bumrah’s high-quality bowling. Barring Keegan Petersen, the South African players didn’t know how to tackle him.

Last week in Johannesburg, Bumrah was involved in a heated exchange with Marco Jansen. The Indian speedster didn’t like the way the South African bowler gave him a long stare after bowling a bouncer. The player came face to face, words were exchanged and the umpires had to intervene to calm things down.

How things panned out on the penultimate day of that encounter, Jansen would’ve taken it as his victory. He had succeeded in getting under the skin of the Indian pacer. But if he thought that the matter was over, he couldn’t have been more wrong.

When the caravan shifted to Newlands, Cape Town, this rivalry was reignited. Not just Bumrah, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli also wanted his premier fast bowler to get his revenge against the South African youngster.

To have watched what transpired in the Johannesburg Test from the dressing room, and then throw the ball to @Jaspritbumrah93 when #MarcoJansen walked in, is the @imVkohli brand of captaincy! Proper cricket box office!

That’s why when Jansen walked into bat on the second day, Kohli handed the ball to Bumrah, perhaps urging him to get his revenge. The Mumbai Indians pacer bowled a peach of a delivery that ended Jansen’s defiance and sent the stumps cart-wheeling.

Bumrah, who was at the receiving end of Jansen’s stare at the Wanderers, it was time for him to return the favour. As the wickets went flying in the air, the Indian pacer stood there and gave Jansen an epic iconic stare.

Kohli was also pumped and was caught on camera uttering some words while celebrating the wicket.

After the disappointment of Johannesburg, watching Bumrah return to his best was a treat to the eyes of Indian supporters.

Not just fans, the former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer also took to the micro-blogging site and said that the South Africans made a big mistake when they messed up with Bumrah during the second Test.

Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. Just phenomenal @Jaspritbumrah93 #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/lguXZQsL0p

“Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. Just phenomenal,” Jaffer tweeted.

Other fans also joined the celebration and heaped praise on Bumrah’s immaculate bowling skills. Many opined that with this bowling spell, Bumrah reminded the opposition that he was not the one to be messed with.

.@Jaspritbumrah93 What a dude reaction to bowling Jansen out.

That stare by Jasprit Bumrah as he castles Marco Jansen. #SAvIND

Inevitable wasn’t it; this Jasprit Bumrah 5 fer. Champion bowler.

— Ian “ Ja Mo” Bishop (@irbishi) January 12, 2022

You write utter rubbish about Bumrah, say he has been worked out, say he is not his old self, and what he does? Comes back with a 5-fer, and does that by giving away just 42 runs.

There is still a lot of cricket left to be played in this match and both teams have equal chances of winning the game.

But history tells us that whenever Bumrah has taken a five-wicket haul in the longest format, India have never lost a game. We just hope that this record keeps intact.
