Borussia Dortmund beat Stuttgart 3-2 in Bundesliga

Berlin, Feb 21 : Wasteful Borussia Dortmund earned a 3-2 victory over last-positioned VFB Stuttgart at the curtain raiser of the 22nd round of Bundesliga.

Juergen Klopp's men climbed out of the relegation battle into the midtable as the "BVB" reaped their third win in a row Friday, reports Xinhua.

Dortmund dominated the game from the kick-off against passive hosts who defended deep in their territory. As a consequence, the visitors overcame Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich for the first time in the 15th minute.

But Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal was called offside. Aubameyang was again in the thick of things 10 minutes later when he utilised a build up play by Marco Reus, who shrugged off three Stuttgart defenders assisting the Gabon international inside the box.

Stuttgart lacked in penetration but an awarded foul play penalty allowed the hosts to level the scores from the spot as Florian Klein slotted home into the bottom left in the 32nd minute.

Dortmund remained unimpressed and restored their lead in the 39th minute through Ilkay Guendogan, who capitalised on a back-heel pass by Shinji Kagawa to score into the bottom right.

After the restart Dortmund continued to work out promising opportunities. But they squandered most of their chances by tapping in from an offside position. Meanwhile Stuttgart posed no threat despite needing decisive points for their relegation battle.

However, the "BVB" killed the game thanks to a moment of madness by Stuttgart's youngster Timo Baumgartl, whose return pass was intercepted by Marco Reus, who had no problems to round Ulreich for the 3-1 lead. 

The blackout by Baumgartl was especially painful as his teammate Georg Niedermeier reduced the arrears to 2-3 out of thin air following a header in the dying minutes of the game.

With the result, Dortmund jumped from the 15th to the 10th position while Stuttgart stays on the last position with 18 points from 22 games.
