WASHINGTON, DC- The Biden administration announced on Tuesday its decision to extend the legal status of over 300,000 migrants from El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal. These individuals were facing the expiration of their deportation protections under the policies implemented by former President Trump.
As a result of this extension, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) will be granted to approximately 337,000 migrants from these countries. This will allow them to continue residing and working legally in the United States for an additional 18 months.
It is worth noting that the previous administration, led by President Trump, had attempted to terminate the TPS programs for these four countries, as well as others. However, these efforts faced legal challenges and were ultimately halted by the U.S. courts.
