BCCI Official Tells What Ganguly & Jay Shah Did After Virat Kohli’s Messy Press Conference

Before leaving for South Africa, the former captain of the white-ball cricket for India, Virat Kohli made sure that he was going to leave behind something special for the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to deal with in his absence.

And surely enough, a few of the questions that were asked during the media interaction managed to get the better of Ganguly, especially after what Kohli said was in complete contradiction to Dada’s take which was made no more than a day ago.

After Kohli refuted Ganguly’s words about asking him to remain the T20I captain of the Indian cricket team and got done with the conference, an anonymous BCCI source told PTI that none of the senior members of the board, including Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah was amused by what the Test captain told the journalists.

In fact, as soon as the conference ended, both Ganguly and Shah reportedly had a zoom call of their own and finalised that they would not be holding yet another press conference or making any public statements. Their aim is now to manage the matter internally.

According to News 18, Ganguly had said that the Indian cricket board with “deal with it appropriately” which also sounded as if he was threatening Virat Kohli , according to several fans on the internet.

The PTI report goes on to say that “experts” were being involved in the matter because the case wasn’t simply about solving a simple controversy but also had to do with saving the reputation of the BCCI President’s office. The board also wanted to ensure that no hasty decisions were made as they were looking at a major Test series in front of them against the Proteas and would not want to shake the morale of the squad.

No centrally-contracted player of the Indian cricket team is supposed to make critical comments publicly about the BCCI or any of the members who hold an office in the organisation. However, Virat Kohli’s case is rather unique as he was simply answering a media question and wished to clarify his stance on a particular situation. The fact that he remains arguably the biggest and most talked-about name in the game, also adds significantly to the equation.
