Paris, Nov 28: SC Bastia forward Brandao has been sentenced to one month behind bars and fined 20,000 euros for his headbutt over Paris Saint Germain mid-fielder Thiago Motta in their Ligue 1 season opener more than three months ago.

The Brazilian, 34, already received a six-month ban for the attack which left his compatriot Motta, now representing Italy, with a broken nose.

CCTV cameras at the Parc des Princes showed Brandao, appearing to wait for Motta in a dressing room corridor, gave the PSG star a headbutt Aug 16 after the French top-flight match where Paris beat Bastia 2-0.

"On the pitch Brandao said he'd be waiting for me afterwards, but I never thought he'd actually do it," Motta told the police.

Brandao, however, said it's Motta who'd insulted him during the match over a rape charge he was cleared of in 2012.

Also he denied what happened outside the dressing room was premeditated, claiming that he'd wanted to "have it out with Motta and then blew a fuse".

French prosecutor earlier called an eight-month sentence for him and a 15,000 euros fine.

But the Paris court president suggested he could benefit from a reduced sentence – community service rather than a prison stay.

Brandao, who's now in hospital for treatment on his injured thigh, will not be back in pitch until February.
