‘Barely Up To Scratch’: ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ Disappoints Fans As They Call It A Snooze Fest

Rakesh Trivedi from Fursatganj and Vimmi Saluja from Pankinagar broke the box office back in 2015 as Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan essayed the role of fictitious con artists – Bunty and Babli. 

And as the reboot of this superhit movie hit the floors, this time with Saif Ali Khan replacing Junior Bachchan in the role of Bunty, Bunty Aur Babli 2 broke more hearts than the box office records, since first reviews of the movie call it ‘just a time-pass’.

The sequel to the comedy drama, follows the life of two young, ambitious and equally cunning con-artists played by Siddhant Trivedi and Sharvari who steal the identity of retired thieves Bunty and Babli and open a can of worms that the audience didn’t really bite into.

Not holding a candle to the OGs, the only one who seemed to have made an impact in this movie is Sharvari, who exceeded expectations in delivering more than just millennial cool. As Pankaj Tripathi replaced Amitabh Bachchan, Saif replaced Abhishek, originality and humor was also replaced by forced humor and uninventive puns.

A user on Twitter called the movie a ‘snooze fest’, while another one wrote, “#BuntyAurBabli2 looks like one of those made for #VOD #sequels that would not be worth seeing in theatres headlined by a guy whose major work now happens on #OTT.”

People on the internet also claimed that the only saving grace in the film were either Saif and Rani or Pankaj Tripathi trying to give his best to the role. Someone commented, “#BuntyAurBabli2 is no where near to the original film #BuntyAurBabli which released in 2005. We missed #AmitabhBachchan and #AbhishekBachchan in a big way

Meanwhile a few loyal fans to the franchise and to the cast called it a ‘must-watch’ and with a storyline that won’t disappoint.
