Armyman covers 650 km in 36 hrs to set solo cycling record

Bengaluru, July 10 (IANS) An armyman has staked claim for a place in the India Book of Records for the Fastest Cycling Solo (Men) category by covering a distance of 650 km in 36 hours.

Rahul Kumar, Craftsman from 515 Army Base Workshop, achieved the record after cycling from Bengaluru to Kanyakumari in a single stretch between July 8-9, a Defence official said on Sunday.

The feat, undertaken as part of the ‘Fit India’, was flagged off by Brig. V.M. Panicker VSM, Stn Cdr,, Bangalore, in the presence of Brig. Alok Jain, SM, Comdt and MD, 515 Army Base Workshop.

Setting off from Bengaluru at 6 a.m. on July 8, Cfn Rahul Kumar completed the cycling feat at 6 p.m. on July 9 in Kanyakumari.

The route covered three passes, Hosur, Salem, and Madurai.

“Although the temperature was normal, it was raining throughout the journey, and heavy winds proved problematic. But the team supported me very well,” Kumar said.

India Book of Records monitored the feat online.
