Appropriate view at earliest: Naidu on unruly MPs

New Delhi, August 13

A day after the government demanded the constitution of a high-level committee to look into the conduct of some Opposition MPs in the Rajya Sabha, Vice-President and RS Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu today said discussions were on and appropriate view would be taken at the earliest.

Parl being made irrelevant: Congress

Under Modi regime, Parliament is being rendered irrelevant and presiding officers are complicit. — Jairam Ramesh, Congress Leader

Naidu said Opposition and the ruling party “are like my two eyes, both are equal for me and a proper vision is possible only with both eyes”.

Asked what action was being contemplated in the wake of RS ruckus during the monsoon session, Naidu said, “After detailed consideration, an appropriate view will be taken at the earliest.”

The Tribune has learnt that a special committee is in the works and could be formed within a week. The RS Secretariat is learnt to be consulting legal experts on past precedents, including on the panel Lok Sabha ex-Speaker Somnath Chatterjee set up in 2005 to probe allegations that some MPs asked in Parliament questions in lieu of cash.

The 2005 panel had recommended the expulsion of 11 MPs and Parliament had in December 2005, in a historic vote, expelled them all.

Congress veteran Jairam Ramesh alleged that the Bills were not being sent to parliamentary committees.
