WASHINGTON, DC- The Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have announced a civil enforcement action against Adobe Inc. and two executives, Maninder Sawhney and David Wadhwani, for alleged violations of the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA). The lawsuit accuses Adobe of imposing hidden “Early Termination Fees” on millions of online subscribers and creating a complex cancellation process to deter subscription cancellations. Adobe, a software company, allegedly concealed critical information about these fees in fine print and inconspicuous hyperlinks. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims Adobe profited from these hidden fees while misleading consumers about the true cost of subscriptions. The lawsuit seeks consumer redress, civil penalties, and a permanent injunction against future violations. Officials emphasize the need for transparent online business practices and accountability for companies exploiting consumers’ confusion.
