Expedite paddy purchase, BJP to Telangana

Hyderabad: Demanding the State government to expedite the process of purchasing paddy from procurement centres and rescue farmers, BJP State general secretary G Premender Reddy here on Sunday said the farmers were facing problems because of the delay in procurement.

Briefing media persons about the resolutions passed during party’s two-day State executive committee meeting, which concluded on Saturday, Reddy said the BJP would continue to exert pressure on the State government to purchase paddy from farmers.

The Centre has clarified that the paddy procurement in Telangana would continue as before at existing Minimum Support Price (MSP) as per Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Telangana and Food Corporation of India (FCI).

The executive committee also demanded that the State government supply seeds on subsidy along with the necessary machinery and sprinklers to encourage farmers to go for alternative crops instead of paddy.

Reddy requested the State government to protect the interests of farmers, who are in crisis because of unseasonal rains and help them by speeding up the procurement process. On another resolution relating to Dharani portal, Reddy asked the government to rectify technical glitches in the portal and ensure transparency in land conversion procedure.

Reddy urged the police to stop highhandedness against those, who are raising voice against the government on paddy procurement issue. The executive committee has thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy for their efforts to get UNESCO’s World Heritage site recognition to Ramappa temple in Mulugu.
