Past Saturday marked the seventh year that the nation celebrated National Handloom Day. The day is designated to honour and cherish the handloom weaving community for their contribution to India’s socio-economic development while urging the masses to support these artisans.

Here are some celebs who took to social media on the day to spread the message, practising what they preach.

Dia Mirza

Mirza took to Instagram to share a never-before-seen image of herself from her wedding to Vaibhav Rekhi back in February this year.

“Have you ever witnessed our master craftsmen/women at work? It is easily one of the most spellbinding processes. The precision and fluidity with which those hands and feet move so perfectly synchronised with the rhythm of the loom creating poetry in motion…” read part of her caption.

Then she goes on to urge her audience to “come together to celebrate the culturally rich and incredible textiles of India. Let’s appreciate the hands behind the looms that work meticulously to weave the finest of the fabrics.”

Lara Dutta

Dutta shared an image of herself in a simple black-and-white saree paired with a contrasting black blouse and a statement neckpiece, her hair up in a simple ponytail. “National Handloom day!!” she wrote as she credited everyone responsible for her look.

Vidya Balan

The actress, last seen in Sherni, is known to particularly enjoy wearing sarees.

“The beauty of silk blossoms in the handlooms. The artistry and allure of Handloom Indian Silks are unmatched. Let us wear handloom silk products with pride and celebrate the magical creations of our weaves, today and everyday! That alone would be a fitting tribute to their passion and devotion towards their masterful craft,” the actress wrote before she tagged accounts that helped her look how she did in the photo.

Samantha Akkineni

Akkineni has a style of her own, and the Indian craftsmanship blends seamlessly into it. “When human hands and heart work in tandem that is grace in the making,” wrote she with a candid still of her laughing in a saree.
