Mumbai : For the first time in his career, serial kisser Emraan Hashmi sent his parents for a screening of his film at a local theatre.

The movie is Shanghai, which hit theatres on Friday, and is, according to the actor, a “family film”. “They came back proud and happy,” reveals Emraan, adding that
he is shocked at hearing good things about his performance from critics. “Ever since my career started, this is a one-off experience. I hope it continues.”

I have to jump off the edge to fly
Known for on-screen lip-locks and starring in sensual films produced by the Bhatt camp, Emraan Hashmi seems to have broadened his horizons with his latest release, Shanghai, in which he doesn’t have any intimate scenes.

Ask him if itwas a conscious choice on his part to break his kisser-boy image, and he says, “I am tired of this tag. While the audience loves typical formulaic films with a generous dose of songs, sex and romance, they have accepted me in an ugly Jogi Parmar role in Shanghai as well. It gives me a refreshing break and satisfaction. I knew it was risky, to sign a film like Shanghai, which is different from all the roles I’ve done before, but I had to jump off the edge to know if I can fly in this direction too,” he adds.

Emraan will be seen next in Raaz 3, in which he’ll play a role that corresponds to his earlier brand of cinema. After this film, he will start shooting for Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj’s co-production Ek Thi Dayan, from June 13 onwards.

“I play a magician in this film, a mix of India’s famous P.C. Sorcar and international magician David Blaine. Since the film has a lot of wizardry, witchcraft and magic, it will be very different from anything I have done so far,” he says.

The actor will also be seen in a comedy by Rajkumar Gupta called Ghanchakkar, opposite Vidya Balan.
