From almost becoming a doctor to winning an Oscar, here are some unknown facts about the Full House star

Actor and comedian, Bob Saget, was recently found dead at the age of 65 in an Orlando hotel room. Famous for playing Danny Tanner in the sitcom Full House and as the narrator in How I Met Your Mother, Saget lived an extraordinary life filled with other accomplishments not known to many. We take a look at some facts of the actor who was an integral part of our childhoods.

He won an Oscar in 1977

While Full House might’ve launched the comedian’s career into the stratosphere, it was a Student Academy Award win that put him on the radar. Called Through Adam’s Eyes, the black-and-white documentary, directed and written by Saget, follows the journey of a boy (rumoured to be his nephew) who undergoes reconstructive facial surgery.

He picked up diaper duty on the sets of Full House

Saget’s role as the doting dad in Full House extended beyond the time when the cameras weren’t rolling. Saget mentions in his book Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian, “Cameras were rolling and one of the young ladies had made a poop, which had to be removed or we would have been holding a child with a smashed-poo-filled diaper for a long scene. A very long scene if you’re smelling poo the whole time.”

He was a Grammy-nominated musician

Yet another interesting facet of the actor’s life, which many might not know of, was that he had a strong pair of lungs on him. Yes, the actor, comedian and author was also an accomplished musician. The Full House star’s album “That’s What I’m Talkin’ About,”
received a nomination for ‘Best Comedy Album’ at the 2014 iteration of the Grammys.

He could’ve been a doctor

Before pursuing his Hollywood career, the Philadelphia native was interested in donning the white coat. In a tell-all interview, the comedian confessed that before completing his degree at Temple University Film School, he had ambitions to become a doctor. It was only when he was persuaded by his English teacher, Elaine Zimmerman, who saw the creative potential in him and persuaded him to become an actor.

However, his intentions of helping the world with medicine stayed with him. After losing his sister to a rare autoimmune disease called Scleroderma, the comedian helped in raising $35 million in funds for research into treatments.

He’s written three books

Along with being the best dad on TV and a brilliant comedian, did you know that Bob fancied himself as a wordsmith? The legendary actor authored three books — Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Turned Filthy Comedian (what went on behind the scenes of one of the most successful sitcoms of all time), Bob Saget’s Tales from the Crib and Zero to Sixty.

It comes as no surprise that we’ll miss the no holds barred comedian dearly.
