44 meritorious teachers, including from Kargil, Punjab, Haryana will be given national teachers award by President on September 5

President Ram Nath Kovind will confer National Teachers Awards on 44 teachers, including from Haryana, Punjab, Jamp;K and Ladakh, on the Teacher’s Day to recognise their contributions in the field of education.

The awardees include Mamta Paliwal (GGSSS Bhiwani, Haryana), Kamal Kishore Sharma (Government Senior Secondary School, Kandaghat, Himachal Pradesh), Jagtar Singh (Government Primary School, Khamano, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab), Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, (Government Primary School, Reasi, Jammu amp; Kashmir) and Muhammad Ali (Government Middle School, Kargil, Ladakh)

“A documentary film on each of the 44 awardees will also be shown. The award is given to accord public recognition to meritorious teachers working in elementary and secondary schools,” said RC Meena, Joint Secretary.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address teachers, students, parents and stakeholders associated with education on September 7 as part of the Shiksha Parv celebrations.

Briefing on the September 5 to 17 virtual event, Vipin Kumar, Joint Secretary, said the prime minister will also launch five initiatives of the department, including Indian Sign Language dictionary of 10,000 words, Talking Books (audio books for visually impaired), School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (SQAAF) of CBSE, NISTHA teachers’ training programme for NIPUN Bharat, and Vidyanjali Portal (for facilitating education volunteers/donors/CSR contributors for school development) on the day.

On vaccination drive on more than 2 crore teachers, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Additional Secretary, said the progress is being monitored by the Department of School Education and Literacy. This will also contribute to decisions pertaining to school reopening, he added.

The inaugural conclave will be attended by Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Annpurna Devi, Subhas Sarkar and Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.

It will be followed by seminars and presentations on various aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and education-related issues.
