Raipur, April 16 (IANS) At least 10 Maoist guerrillas were killed early Tuesday when security forces stormed their hideout in a thickly forested area in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, said police.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, commandos from Andhra Pradesh’s anti-Maoist Grey Hound force raided the hideout in an area falling under the Pamed police station area. Police say that more than 100 Maoists were inside when they came under intense fire.

More than 10 insurgents — some believed to be commando ranked forces of the banned terror outfit, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) — were killed, Director General of Police Ramniwas told reporters.

"Dozens of Maoists were put under heavy gunfire for hours. The entire hideout has been dismantled, I suspect the death toll could rise heavily. It’s a big success…," Ramniwas added.

The hideout is located close to the Andhra Pradesh border.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition have been seized from the hideout.
