‘Ye Kya Chu**yapa Hai?’ Deepak Chahar Wins ‘Best Moment’ Award For Staring At Guptill

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

Shrugging off the T20 World Cup heartbreak, Team India returned back to winning ways as they defeated New Zealand by five wickets in Jaipur.

The Kiwis, who had landed in India a couple of days back after participating in the final of the multi-nation event in the UAE, came out with purpose but the Men In Blue proved their supremacy in all three departments of the game.

There were plenty of talking points throughout the match but the ‘Best Moment of the Match’ award went to Deepak Chahar for staring at New Zealand opener Martin Guptill, after picking up his wicket, which left the fans biting their teeth.

The reason behind Chahar’s animated send-off lies in what happened on the first ball of the 18th over of the innings. Guptill dispatched Chahar’s delivery deep into the stands for a 98-meter six a ball before.

Such was his confidence that he didn’t even bother looking at the ball and instead gave the bowler a solid stare for a couple of seconds. That’s why when the medium pacer got him caught at the hands of Shreyas Iyer at deep mid-wicket on the next ball, he returned the favour and gave him a stare as the Kiwi opener began his long march back to the pavilion.

Earlier, there used to be only one Player of the Match award but to accommodate the multiple sponsors, the BCCI introduced a variety of awards in the IPL and has introduced the same to bi-lateral series as well.

After the match the fans took to the micro-blogging site to criticise such useless prizes which have zero significance to the match.

Some of the fans raised objection against the number of awards that are being handed out after each match while others asked what the board was trying to prove by rewarding a bowler’s animated send-off with a trophy.

What’s dis… Is dis some kind of drama or theatrics going on… I mean let the sport be a sport.. Bcci seriously needs to think about all this crap

To be honest, people loved the fact that it was all done in good spirits, with neither Guptill nor Deepak Chahar crossing the line during this incident. Fans loved the fact that both the players showed aggression but there was no malice in their action.

However, most of the supporters felt that awarding such an incidence was a bit too much and there were several other glorious cricket moments that were worthy of winning the ‘best moment’ award.

For example, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s beautiful inswinging delivery that got rid of NZ opener Daryl Mitchell or Guptill’s clean hitting or Rohit Sharma’s incredible pull shots against Trent Boult and Tim Southee or Ravichandran Ashwin striking gold twice in the span of six balls.

Had the team of commentators picked any of these events and awarded it with this ‘best moment’ award, we are sure nobody would have complained.
