New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Wednesday launched "Redmi 5" in India with 18:9 display for Rs 7,999 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.

"Redmi 5" has 7.7-mm metal body which makes it the slimmest smartphone in the Redmi series and has a 5.7-inch screen for an immersive viewing experience, the company said in a statement.

The device will be available in a weekly sale starting March 20 across Mi.com, Amazon and Mi Home stores for Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 for 3GB and 32GB storage and 4GB with 64GB internal memory variants, respectively.

"#Redmi5 is an overall upgrade to Redmi 4 and a worthy successor," Jain added.

The smartphone will also be made available across all Xioami’s offline partners in the coming weeks, the company said in a statement.

The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core processor with 14nm "FINFET" technology.
