Hyderabad: Woxsen University’s startup incubator ‘Trade Tower’, which is aiming to build a startup ecosystem to jumpstart unicorns, is onboarding several startups into its incubation programme and expects to have at least 25 startups by March 2022.
Trade Tower had earlier signed up with startups such as Flexfit, Pinit and Deepum Tech and has recently incubated four more startup ideas that include The Hydroponics Company, Pluto, Fanatic Kalakaar and Maia Cares, after providing them the initial mentoring.
Flexfit deals with a fitness product, Pinit’s artificial intelligence driven app aims to help tackle mental health, while Deepum Tech has a patent pending smartphone. The Hydroponics Company is specialised in herbal medicines, Pluto’s decision chatbot helps individuals buy online better, Fanatic Kalakaar’s educational platform for school students helps in imparting different skills while Maia Cares is a caretaking certification platform targeted at healthcare.
Kashyap Kompella, head, Trade Tower, Woxsen University told Telangana Today, “We plan to incubate 12 startups by this month end and may triple by the end of 2022. Each startup goes through an idea and market validation process before getting into the core incubation mode. We will also be providing pitching sessions for the startups in March 2022 where we will be inviting investors. We plan to do this twice a year, once in March and then in November.”
Emerging opportunities
“In the last one year, among several sectors, we are seeing a lot of momentum in the healthcare and medtech space. The startup Maia Cares is looking at offering learning certification for nursing and caretakers and other areas such as critical care and psychology. This is a big untapped area,” he added.
Kompella noted, the Indian market is primarily IT-focused however Trade Tower is also striving to help product-oriented startups, helping them from ideation stage, prototyping and then launching the commercial product in the market.
The incubator is building competencies in design and technology, backed by hardware development capabilities. Several research projects are in progress for validation of ideas.
“We have competencies in 3D printing. We can make prototypes here. But for deeptech, we would like to work with institutions such as the IIIT to get support, particularly on the engineering front,” he informed.
