SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CA — The India Association of Los Angeles (IALA) has appointed its 2018 board of directors with the new board unanimously electing Vinod Manchhani as its chairman.
The new IALA board includes Inder Singh, Raman Chadha, Vineet Puri, Kumar Jawa, Satish Tomar, Ranjit Joea, Jagdish (Jack) Khangura, Sam Sidhu, Ouseph Poulose, Harbans (Bob) Bawa, Bobby Sharma, Iqbal Samra, Ravi Grewal and Mukhtiar Kamboj.
Manchhani, who is president of Transam Travels America, lives in Bell Canyon and has been active in community work for about 20 years. He has also been involved with the IALA for many years and served as the organization’s president in 2015.
The IALA holds elections for its executive committee annually and new the executive committee then elects the board of directors.
The IALA was founded in 1999 to preserve, promote and nurture Indian heritage, culture and traditions. Each year, the IALA hosts a variety of cultural and social events, including the annual India Independence Day Mela and the Republic Day celebration.
The IALA Independence Day Mela draws more than 10,000 people every year and provides a platform for talented community members to perform in front of thousands of people, noted a press release.
Members of Congress, Indian ambassadors and many other dignitaries have participated in the celebrations over the years.
