CHICAGO,IL — An Uber driver has been charged after he allegedly locked a woman inside his car in an attempt to force her to have sex with him, according to the police.
Muhammad Fahim (44), of the 6100 block of North Washtenaw Avenue in West Ridge, has been charged with felony, kidnapping and unlawful restraint, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Fahim picked up the 19-year-old woman, who was an Uber customer, on July 4 in the 500 block of North Dearborn Street. The woman’s ride request with the app was deleted and she offered to pay Fahim with cash for the ride, but he told her he wanted sex instead, a prosecutor said during an August 19 hearing.
The woman refused and Fahim locked the car’s doors and wouldn’t let the woman leave. It wasn’t until Fahim’s car slowed down that the woman was able to get out of the moving car and escape.
Fahim was charged with unlawful restraint and received several driving citations.
His bail was set at $100,000.
He is no longer with Uber and has been permanently banned from the company, a spokeswoman for the ride-share app said.
