London, Aug 17 (IANS/CMC) Trinidadian striker Kenwyne Jones continued his bright start to the new English Championship football season, scoring twice to help demoted Cardiff City beat Huddersfield Town.

The 29-year-old struck twice in either half as the Welsh side came away with a 3-1 win at home at the Cardiff City Stadium Saturday night, to extend their unbeaten record in the campaign, reports CMC.

Cardiff opened with a 1-1 draw away to Blackburn Rovers last week, with Jones scoring his first goal of the season, and they followed up by beating Coventry City 2-1 in the Capital One Cup at mid-week.

Cardiff City were in front as the game neared the half-hour mark, when Peter Whittingham scored with a scorcher from 30 yards out.

Jones then doubled the hosts’ lead in the 35th minute, converting on the second attempt from close range, after being picked out by a cross from defender John Brayford.

Huddersfield pulled back one in half-time stoppage thanks to a strike from defender Murray Wallace who slammed in a rebound, after Conor Coady’s initial shot was blocked.

With the game nicely poised at half-time, Jones took the sting out of Huddersfield with his second goal of the game in the 56th minute.

The lanky marksman eluded his marker and Mats Daehli picked him out with a lovely cross, with the clinical finish beating goalkeeper Alex Smithies.
