Kolkata, April 9 (IANS) West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress on Saturday announced it will conduct an internal probe into a sting operation in which several of its top leaders were allegedly caught accepting bribes.

Announcing the probe, Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee said that it will also look into the roles of Congress leader Ahmed Patel, Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh and Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Sitaram Yechury in the "conspiracy."

"From timing of its release to the contents, all the aspects will be looked by the internal probe and if anyone found guilty, the party will take adequate steps," he said.

"This probe will also look into the role of the people whose names have cropped up, people like Ahmad Patel, Siddharth Nath Singh and Sitaram Yechury. If their involvement is established, we will endeavour for steps against them," added Chatterjee.

The move comes a day after the Calcutta High Court began hearing on several public interest litigations seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe and action against the leaders caught in the sting.

Conducted by Narada News, the sting videos show over a dozen Trinamool leaders, including MPs, MLAs and former union ministers, allegedly taking wads of cash in return for assuring favours to a fictitious company.
