Trains cancelled, diverted after Bokaro derailment

Kolkata, June 22 (IANS) Train services on the South Eastern Railway were affected Sunday following the derailment of a passenger train in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, an official said.

As a result of the derailment, a number of trains had to be cancelled, short-terminated/short-originated, rescheduled and diverted, a spokesperson for the SE railway said.

The engine and five coaches of the Muri-Dhanbad Passenger train derailed while approaching Bokaro Steel City station early in the day. No casualty or injury to any passenger was reported in the incident.

As many as six trains on the route were cancelled for the day.

According to the SE Railway, the Patna-Ranchi Janshatabdi Express both from Patna and Ranchi, Ranchi-Baidyanathdham Express, Dhanbad-Ranchi-Dhanbad Passenger, Hatia-Rajendra Nagar Express from Hatia, and Dhanbad-Chandrapura-Muri Passenger from Dhanbad were cancelled for Sunday while Muri-Chandrapura-Dhanbad Passenger from Muri will remain cancelled for Monday.

The Rajendra Nagar-Hatia Express going towards Hatia from Patna was terminated at Bokaro Steel City itself while the Dhanbad-Ranchi Intercity was terminated at Chandrapura.

The Jhargram-Dhanbad MEMU Passenger was terminated at Purulia and Dhanbad-Jhargram MEMU Passenger now originated from Purulia.

The Hatia-Barddhaman Passenger was terminated at Purulia and will run as a passenger special to Hatia, while the Bardhaman-Hatia Passenger was short-terminated too.

Alternate transport facilities including bus services were provided to the passengers free of cost.

Two other trains were rescheduled while the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express and the New Delhi-Ranchi Jharkhand Sampark Kranti Express were diverted through an alternate route.

Other trains to have been diverted include the Gorakhpur-Hatia Express, Baidyanathdham-Ranchi Express, Kamakhya-Ranchi Express, Ranchi-Howrah Intercity Express, Hatia-Patna Express, Alappuzha-Dhanbad Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express.

Restoration work was on full swing and the derailed coaches and the engine had been brought back onto the track. Train services on the Up line resumed in the evening while the Down trains were running on single line.
