KENTUCKY- The collision of two Army Blackhawk helicopters in Kentucky has resulted in the death of all nine soldiers onboard. The helicopters crashed during a routine training mission over Trigg County and landed in a field near a residential area, but there were no injuries among civilians or anyone on the ground. Brig. Gen. John Lubas, deputy commander of the 101st Airborne Division, confirmed the tragedy and expressed his thoughts and prayers for the families of the fallen soldiers.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. The 101st Airborne Division, nicknamed the “Screaming Eagles,” is the only air assault division of the US Army and has been active since 1942. The Blackhawk helicopter is a critical workhorse for the Army, and has been used heavily in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
