NEW YORK CITY — NYPD officers were dispatched to guard some Muslim houses of worship in New York after six people were fatally shot at a Quebec (Canada) mosque on the night of January 29.
Gunmen opened fire on the Islamic Cultural Center of Quebec about 8 pm, killing six and injuring eight others in what Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a ‘terrorist attack on Muslims’.
Two people were taken into custody after the attack.
The NYPD’s Critical Response Command has been assigned to ‘certain mosque locations’ in New York, say NYPD officials.
Police officers were also directed to give special attention to all mosques and houses of worship throughout the city, officials said.
The New York police are continuing to monitor the Quebec attack.
