Three die of suffocation while cleaning septic tank

Panaji, Jan 15: Three people died of suffocation and one man was admitted to hospital on Wednesday after attempting to clean a septic tank in a hotel on the outskirts of this Goa capital.

Police said Wednesday that the four men had been engaged to clean a clogged septic tank at Shell-Top Inn, on the outskirts of Panaji.
The deceased were identified as Chandu Naik, 34, a resident of Dandeli, Karnataka, Vishnu Vishambharam, 18, from Kerala and Mahesh Majik, 20, from Valpoi in Goa.
A Nepali national, Santosh Oli, who was also engaged in the same task, was admitted to hospital after he lost consciousness because of suffocation.
Police have arrested the owner of the hotel, Lenin Viegas.
