Tata Motors Unveils Next-Gen Tigor EV

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

Tata Motors has unveiled the second-generation Tigor electric vehicle, which will be launched at the end of this month. Unlike the previous version, which was aimed at commercial buyers and fleet operators, the new Tigor EV is meant for private buyers.

The new Tigor EV is powered by Tata Motors’ ‘Ziptron’ all-electric powerplant that produces 55kW (74bhp) and 170Nm of torque. The company claims a zero to 60kph time of 5.7 seconds and a press note says the car ‘can negotiate the steepest of gradients without any compromise.’ A fully automatic transmission provides ease of use, while driving modes allow the driver to choose between higher efficiency and sportier performance.

The Tigor EV’s permanent-magnet synchronous AC electric motor is fed by a 26kWh, IP67-rated lithium-ion battery pack, which comes with an 8-year, 160,000km warranty. The new Tigor EV is compatible with the CCS2 charging protocol that’s now used worldwide and the car can either be charged via a normal household electricity outlet, or via any fast charger that’s available for public use. While charging at home via a regular AC outlet, a 0-80% charge takes about 8.5 hours, while the same takes only 30 minutes if the car is being charged via a fast-charger.

A 7-inch Harman touchscreen takes care of infotainment and there’s full smartphone connectivity, along with a wide range of smart apps for charging, cooling, diagnostics and much more. Safety features on the Tigor EV include dual airbags, ABS with EBD and a cornering stability control system.

Tata Motors, which also makes the very successful Nexon EV, believes that electric vehicles are now ready to move beyond their earlier niche positioning. ‘We can confidently state that EVs are rapidly becoming mainstream. The EV market has reached an inflection point and we need to cater to diverse customer needs and democratise the EV market further with another accessible and contemporary EV product. With the all-new Tigor EV we want to lead this evolution to mainstream EVs in India,’ says Vivek Srivatsa, Head-Marketing, Passenger and Electric Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors.

The new Tigor EV can now be booked at select Tata Motors dealerships, with a payment of Rs 21,000. The car will be officially launched on 31st August and prices will be announced at that time, but we expect the Tigor EV to come in at below Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom.
