Statement by Treasurer Summers on DACA

CHICAGO,IL – "President Trump’s repugnant decision to end DACA threatens the immigrant tradition that makes America exceptional and betrays more than 800,000 young adults and children who are essential to the economic and social fabric of our communities.

By forcing hundreds of thousands of young people to fear removal from their homes, President Trump has again shown his willingness to treat our most vulnerable populations with cruelty.
We can and must do better. In Chicago, we will redouble our efforts and continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with young Dreamers – and with all communities under the threat by the Trump Administration’s agenda. Further, I call on Congress to pass the Dream Act of 2017, spearheaded by Senators Dick Durbin and Lindsey Graham, so dreamers have the safety and security they deserve in the only country they have ever known as home.”
