Sluggish voting in Azamgarh, Rampur

An average of only 41 per cent votes were cast till 5 pm on Thursday in the byelections to Azamgarh and Rampur Lok Sabha seats, an hour before polling was scheduled to close in the two Samajwadi Party bastions.

Agartala: The byelections to the four Assembly constituencies in Tripura on Thursday recorded 76.62 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm. The polling process was largely peaceful, barring the stabbing of an off-duty constable. PTI

Rampur, which fell vacant after SP leader Azam Khan moved to the Assembly, recorded a turnout of just 37 per cent till this time. In 2019, the final percentage was 63.19.

In Azamgarh, represented by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav before he was elected to the Assembly in the last Vidhan Sabha polls, the turnout was 45.97 per cent till 5 pm.
