SACRAMENTO, CA- The incident occurred at a Sikh temple in Sacramento County during a traditional neighborhood celebration called Nagar Kirtan. According to the authorities, a fistfight broke out between two men on the temple grounds, which led to one of the men shooting a friend of the other combatant.
The second man involved in the fight then fired upon the first man and ran off. The first suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Karman Sandhu and has been booked into jail on a charge of attempted murder. The second suspect is expected to be booked into jail following his release from the hospital. The two people who were injured in the shooting have been hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Deputies are expected to remain at the scene to gather eyewitness statements and cellphone video. The society held a parade as part of the Nagar Kirtan festivities, which attracted hundreds of festivalgoers, but the area has been deemed safe by the authorities.
