Shift cell tower from Mangapuram Colony: Residents

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

Hyderabad: The plan to construct a cellular tower in the middle of a densely populated Mangapuram Colony near Loyola College in Alwal is causing concern among the residents. Fearing that the radiation from the tower could lead to public health issues, the residents of the area have been running from pillar to post to get the location of the tower changed to a relatively safer place.

“We are deeply worried over the impact of radiation from the tower on public health,” said Hanumantha Rao, president of the Mangapuram Colony residents’ welfare association.
Mangapuram colony Phase-I, II and III, close to the playground of Loyola College, is centrally located with several apartment complexes and independent houses having come up over the past few decades. The colony residents recently held a peaceful demonstration to bring the problem to the notice of the authorities. The police intervened and defused the situation.

“We have lodged a protest and gave several representations to the municipal authorities against the construction of the tower atop a private building here. We have also pleaded with the authorities to protect us from the radiation by shifting the location of the tower. We have also identified a safe location where the tower can be constructed without causing damage to the public health,” said another senior resident of the colony, Prabhakar Deekanonda.

The residents want the authorities to shelve the present plan in the interest of the public health.
