Shashi Tharoor hospitalised, to be discharged soon

New Delhi, Jan 18: Shashi Tharoor, minister of state for human resource development, was hospitalised after he complained of chest pain early Saturday, a day after his wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a hotel here. An official said he will discharged soon.

Tharoor was initially admitted to the ICU and later shifted to a ward at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

“He (Tharoor) was admitted at 3.30 a.m. with complaints of discomfort and palpitation,” AIIMS spokesperson Amit Gupta told mediapersons.

“His condition is stable, his ECG is normal and will be discharged soon,” said Gupta who added that hypertension was the cause behind the minister’s discomfort.

Tharoor was admitted to AIIMS hours after his wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her room at The Leela Palace hotel in south Delhi Friday.

Gupta said the autopsy report would be handed over to the sub-divisional magistrate after 2 p.m.

“The body will be handed over to the family once the autopsy is complete,” said Gupta.

He said that the autopsy is being done by a panel of three doctors comprising Sudhir Gupta, Adarsh Kumar and Shashank Punia.

There was speculation over Tharoor and Pushkar’s relationship after the two declared they were “happily married” following public airing of tweets that hinted at an extra-marital relationship and alleged involvement of a Pakistani woman.
