It has not even been one full day since Virat Kohli announced his resignation as the captain of the Indian Test cricket team and speculations behind his major decision have already spread in the air with thousands of his fans feeling as if he was forced into calling it quits on his leadership, specifically by the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

A day after India lost the three-match Test series to South Africa, Kohli shared a message through his social media handles in which he said that he will be giving up all the roles and responsibilities that came with the title of being the team captain and focus purely on becoming the greatest version of the batter he can.

As soon as the news hit the internet, his followers targeted the boss-men at the Indian cricket board and started speculating and criticising them for coercing Kohli into taking such a big step despite his phenomenal winning record as the skipper in the longest format of the game.

This petty and dirty politics by Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah has ended a great captaincy career, Virat Kohli doesn’t deserve such treatment. Internal politics of BCCI has wounded Indian Cricket terribly.

Jay Shah, Ganguly and other politicians at #BCCI to Indian cricket fans after their shocking mismanagement which led to Virat Kohli – greatest test captain India ever had stepping down!#ViratKohli pic.twitter.com/rLMvkwfpme

Things took a turn for the worse when Shah failed to read the room that Twitter had become and felt the need to reply to Kohli’s resignation with a positive and jolly generic message that was probably handed over to him by one of his minions.

Congratulations to @imVkohli on a tremendous tenure as #TeamIndia captain. Virat turned the team into a ruthless fit unit that performed admirably both in India and away. The Test wins in Australia & England have been special. https://t.co/9Usle3MbbQ

— Jay Shah (@JayShah) January 15, 2022

The message opened the doors to Kohli fans to directly start writing into Shah’s Twitter feed and letting him know how he and his boss, Ganguly managed to “destroy Indian cricket all by yourself”.

Thnx @JayShah and @SGanguly99 for degrading Indian cricket. You have successfully taken Indian cricket to dirty politics level.

Things between Virat Kohli and the BCCI authorities have been sour for a while now. Before leaving for South Africa, Kohli had dropped a bombshell on Ganguly during a virtual press conference where he directly contradicted the BCCI president and said that he had shown no signs of opposition towards the idea of Kohli stepping down as the T20I captain back in September.

Ever since then, Ganguly has also expressed his issues with the recently resigned Indian skipper and despite trying his best to control his temper in public, has taken a few shots at Kohli. For instance, in December 2021, Dada said that he liked Kohli’s attitude but the problem was that the ace batter “fights a lot”.

On the other hand, the Indian batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar said that even Kohli knew that his time as the leader of the red-ball squad was coming to an end and that the BCCI would have fired him upon his journey back home had he decided not to announce his resignation first.
