Reshma Shamasunder

LOS ANGELES, CA — Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles (AAAJ-LA) has announced that it has named Reshma Shamasunder as its new vice president of program strategy.

In her role, the Indian American activist, with her nearly 20 years of experience working regionally and nationally on immigration rights issues, will lead the organization’s ‘fight back’ efforts in response to a new era of rising anti-immigrant policies and racial tensions.

Prior to joining AAAJ-LA, Shamasunder served as deputy director of programs at the National Immigration Law Center and previously consulted with philanthropy, advocacy and grassroots partners on policy campaigns and issues that benefit low-income, immigrant and other vulnerable communities.

A graduate of UCLA and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Shamasunder also currently serves on the CIPC board.

She has received several accolades throughout her career, including the Families USA Health Equity Advocate of the Year Award and the National Immigration Law Center Courageous Luminaries Award.
