Pepsi Promotes Pepsi With Milk Desis Say It’s 0ur ‘Doodh Soda’

Looks like there is another desi drink that has caught the fancy of the West. A few days ago, Cola giant Pepsi launched a new holiday commercial showing Lindsay Lohan mixing Pepsi with milk. Calling the new combination ‘Pilk,’ the company is also promoting the drink for Christmas and asking people to go for Pilk (Pepsi+ milk) and cookies.

While one could have passed this as another of fancy holiday drinks but this time the combination has struck a chord with the desis. Interestingly, milk with soda or doodh soda has been a popular summer drink in the subcontinent. People in the parts of Punjab province in Pakistan and some parts of India have been relishing this drink for ages now. In fact many Pakistanis say that during the Ramadan in summer months, doodh soda is a staple on their Iftar table. Many Pakistani cookbooks have the recipe of doodh soda and Punjabis both Indian and Pakistanis swear by drinking this combination at many roadside dhabas, usually made by mixing 7 Up or Sprite with milk and ice.

So, looks like after the Indian haldi doodh that got a fancy overhaul as turmeric latte, now is the turn for our very own desi doodh soda!
