In order to stabilise and regulate the growing population in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath led government has proposed a bill on population control. The bill has already sparked off a big debate as it claims that anyone having more than two offspring will be exiled from enjoying state government benefits or even be eligible for a government job.

Gorapkhpur MP and famous Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan will be introducing the Population Bill in the Monsoon session of the parliament. This has sparked off a debate on the internet because interestingly, the man himself is a father to four children.

पुत्र धन की चाहत में @ravikishann जी ने बेटियों की अनदेखी किया बाकी जनसंख्या बढा़ने का कोई और कारण नहीं था।

It just shows the mindset. They don’t really care about population. Their ONLY aim is to create Hindu-muslim debate on this too..

Apart from law, need to educate women. Also, inflation and over competition will anyways decrease birth rate in coming years.

@ravikishann

While a lot of people called it a hypocritical stand on the MP’s front, some people urged others to look at the other side and supported this stance completely.

You cannot amend the mistakes of the past but one can surely make course correction for the future. Obviously ,our forefathers had had a number of child that never means we should not take the steps for population control.

My parents have three children then they have no right to support this bill or urge the Govt to introduce the bill, are you saying that Sir?

— Ritam Kr Dutta (@ImHRitaM007) July 12, 2021

Sir I understand it’s funny & ironic that people with more than 2 kids are now propounding these ideas but at the same time, population control is needed more than ever in our nation. One can easily compare India’s size & population to other big countries & find huge differences.

India is still a long way from accepting bills which support population control. In a land where the desire to produce a son still continues to be the reason why so many parts of India have a high female foeticide rate, educating people to stabilise population will take a lot of effort from the government’s end.
