NEW YORK — Supporting the recently-launched “Clean India” campaign by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India, volunteers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and several prominent Indian Americans undertook a “Clean City” public awareness campaign in New York.

The symbolic campaign was led by Vijay Jolly, Global Convener of BJP Overseas Affairs under the guidance of OFBJP (Overseas Friends of BJP) US president, Chandrakant Patel and other OFBJP supporters.

Hundreds of Indian Americans and BJP supporters swarmed 52nd street and 3rd Avenue in Manhattan at noon on October 2, wielding brooms to clean the sidewalk and the street.

“It is the duty of the leadership to exhort and motivate its citizens for ‘Clean City’ public programs,” Jolly told media persons. “And Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has involved 125 million Indian citizens in this campaign on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.”

The OFBJP US Chapter office-bearers present on the occasion were Jayesh Patel–past president; R.P.Singh–organizing general secretary; Ram Kamath, general secretary; Dr Sangeeta Chawla, convener of Women’s Wing; co-conveners Kajol Bishnoi and Shukla and Legal Affairs Convener, Rani Imandi.

Also present were OFBJP Central Committee members Kapil Kumria and Rajnish Goenka from India and Rajeev Bhambri, COO of Rediff India Abroad.

All those attending the event pledged to keep their neighborhoods in New York and New Jersey clean and pollution-free. Jolly thanked all present on behalf of BJP National President Amit Shah for participating in the symbolic public awareness program in the US.
