New Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) Global luxury brands like Gucci, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli and Salvatore Ferragamo have used a fusion of Indian textiles to present an exclusive line as part of a special initiative, Project Renaissance.

The event, organised by DLF Emporio and Vogue fashion magazine, is expected to give an impetus to the many international designers who are taking inspiration from Indian design aesthetics for new creations.

It will feature a melange of fusion pieces, made using Indian fabrics and prints.

The eight-day event, which will start Jan 24 at DLF Emporio in south Delhi here, will exhibit 21 pieces from some of the top notch international luxury brands.

"We at DLF Emporio embrace Project Renaissance as a global salute to Indian craftsmanship. The inspirational journey of Vogue is a differential experience we bring to our patrons," Dinaz Madhukar, senior vice president, DLF Emporio, said in a statement.

On exhibit will be – Burberry’s trench coat in Maheshwari silk, Tod’s’ D bag in Kanchipuram silk, Gucci’s gown in Gujarati patola, Ferragamo’s shoes in Benarasi brocade, Hermes’ scarf in Kantha work and Roberto Cavalli’s traditional Rajasthani bandhini sari turned into an exquisite outfit.

For the designers of the brands, this was a unique chance to blend their fashion sensibilities with India’s culture and textiles.

For Cavalli, who was here last year to launch his flagship store, "it was an exciting challenge to construct the design, to blend the Cavalli sensuality and style with the elements of a traditional sari."

Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer, Burberry, said: "I wanted to take our iconic trench coat and play with its unique identity. Like the trench, the Maheshwari fabric has an incredibly rich history and heritage, which I find truly inspiring."

Frida Giannini, creative director, Gucci, said: "The patola fabric is incredibly rich and simple. It gives you the idea of heritage, tradition, craftsmanship, creativity, all themes that are very close to me and to Gucci."
