Netizens oppose Saudi move for cinemas in Madinah

Hyderabad: Netizens showed their resentment over the decision of the Saudi Arabia government to allow cinema halls in the holy city of Madinah.

A call for an online protest against the decision drew wide response with people joining in using the hashtags “#BanCinemaInMadinaShareef”, “#ShameOnYouSaudiGovt”. The protest was trending in the afternoon with several hundreds joining and posting their opinions.

The Mumbai-based Raza Academy had given the call for the protest on Twitter at 2 pm on Thursday against the decision of the Saudi government.

The city of Madinah is most sacred for Muslims alongside Mecca. The Prophet Muhammed migrated to Madinah following 13 years of persecution in Mecca, and his final resting place is also located in Masjid e Nabawi, Madinah. Hence Muslims are opposing the move of the Saudi government.

Mufti Salman Azhari, @muftisalman_ ,prominent religious figure and founder of Jamia Riyazul Jannah, Al-Amaan Education and Welfare Trust and Darul Amaan tweeted: “We strongly condemn & protest against the idea of #SaudiArabia Government of opening cinema hall on the most purest place of the world.”

Another Twitter user, Mirza Reyhan Baig Qadri @BaigReyhan, wrote, “We will not allow you to open cinemas on the holy land of Madinah shareef, if you do not listen to us, then this voice will go to the United Nations.”

The Faizan E Rabbani Welfare Society @faizane_rabbani wrote “We strongly condemn and protest against the idea of the Saudi Arabia government of opening the cinema hall in the most pure place of the world”.

Another protestor Bahauddin Misbahi @Baha_Misbahi tweeted: “Muslims go to holy cities to ask forgiveness from Allah not to commit sins by watching movies.”

M.Khan @Mkhan525 wrote “The announcement of the opening of a cinema hall by the Saudi government on Madina Shareef’s Muqaddas Sar Zameen (holy place) is a very absurd and shameful act. The Saudi government should immediately withdraw this decision.”
