MGC St. Louis Celebrates Janmashtami

ST LOUIS, MO— On Sunday, September 2nd, the Hindu community gathered to celebrate Janmashtami at the Mahatma Gandhi Center in St. Louis. The Gandhi Center was decorated with flowers and bright lights and devotees sang bhajans in praise of Lord Krishna for over 3 hours.
Also at Gandhi Center, arrangements have made been for ”matki phod” (breaking the earthen pot) function. “Matki phod” is where youths will climb atop each other to form a pyramid to reach the ”dahi handi” filled with traditional curd that was favorite of Lord Krishna.
At midnight, Lord Krishna was placed in the cradle and, the celebrations came to a grand finale with dancing, drum beats, singing, and chanting, followed by one last aarti.
