Mercury rises in Himachal due to dry spell

Shimla, Nov 25 (IANS) Temperature across Himachal Pradesh on Sunday showed a rise due to the prevailing dry conditions, which the Met said will be there till Tuesday, when the western disturbances will set in.

"There are chances of rain or snowfall in the high-altitude region on November 28," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official told IANS.

The western disturbances — storm systems originating from the Caspian Sea and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region — would be active in the region from November 27.

Most of the prominent tourist towns located in mid-hills, including Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Manali and Dalhousie, have been witnessing long sunny days, he added.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place with a low of minus 2.9 degrees Celsius.

Shimla recorded 12.1 degrees Celsius, five degrees above season’s average, while the minimum in Manali was 1.6 degrees, 13 in Dalhousie and 9.2 in Dharamsala.
