BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

The world hasn’t been a very rosy place to live in for a while now, and society doesn’t seem to be making it any easier, what with its stereotypes, unrealistic expectations and superficial beauty standards that it keeps on setting.

And despite the popular opinion, men aren’t all that better off than women either.

Subjected to similar scrutiny, especially when it comes to looking a certain way, men are also pressured by the unrealistic beauty standards that the industry has set for them.

The photoshopped pictures that we see making rounds on social media, the several filters that celebrities use on their images are all contributing to making the men around us feel more conscious and guarded every single day.

Opening up about just that, were a bunch of men on a thread on Reddit, where they were asked, “How do you avoid insecurity of your body image when you see other guys have better body shape?”.

From hitting the gym, giving themselves a pep talk, trying to see the silver lining, men revealed all that they are trying to do to manage the everyday body issues they face.

One guy wrote, “There will always be some better then you, so just be the best person you can be and learn to love that,” and honestly, it didn’t just make sense, it was also a shortcut to a much happier life.

Another user shared how he tries to hit the gym to deal with his insecurities. He wrote, “Go to the gym abs get in shape. My quality of life grows exponentially the better shape I am in.”

One guy spilt a few truth bombs in his response as he ended up writing, “Realize that the People you want to look like, want to look different themselves. Everyone has insecurities about their appearance.” Couldn’t say we didn’t agree with him!

A user also tried to see the bigger picture, quite literally so, as he wrote, “I see the Marvel guys and I remember that they’re paid to look like the way they do where I, on the other hand, am just existing. I work out for my mental health.”

The thread garnered over a 100 different answers from different kinds of men and it made us realise just how many men face the scrutiny of conforming to the beauty standards that have already been set.

However, it was good to see that most men are trying to talk themselves out of the need to change themselves and instead, accept them for who they are.
