Marks out of 10: Player ratings for West Indies in the Australia T20Is

West Indies started their preparation for the T20 World Cup in fine fashion, defeating Australia 4-1 in the T20I series. Here are the player ratings for the home team.

Lendl Simmons: 7/10

165 runs @ 33; SR: 122.22

Simmons ended the series as the highest run-getter from the home team but also had the slowest strike-rate among the batters. He batted at less than run-a-ball in the last T20I but had scored a crucial 72 off 48 in the fourth game in an innings where none of the other West Indians could get past 31.

Andre Fletcher: 2/10

31 runs @ 7.75; SR: 77.50

The only West Indian batter who could not get going in the series despite playing four games. Fletcher could only manage a high score of 12, which came in the fifth T20I.

Evin Lewis: 9/10

110 runs @ 36.66; SR: 220

Lewis started off with a duck, and did not feature in the second and third T20Is. However, when he did get a chance, he ensured that he made the most of it. A 31-ball 14 in the fourth game was followed by 79 off just 34 in the fifth match, which enabled West Indies to get going right from the outset.

Chris Gayle: 6/10

106 runs @ 21.20; SR: 143.24; 1 wicket @ 19; ER: 4.38

The left-hander could not get going in the first two games, which put question marks on his place in the XI for the T20 World Cup, but he bounced back in fine fashion with 67 off 38 in the third game. He started off with 4, 0, 6, 4, 6 in his first five balls against Adam Zampaa in the last game, but was unable to capitalise. On the way, Gayle also became the first batter to score 14,000 runs in the format.

Nicholas Pooran: 5/10

96 runs @ 32, SR: 126.31

The skipper deserves credit for leading West Indies to a memorable series win, but he would have hoped to put up a better showing with the bat. Pooran had a high score of 32* in five games with his only other notable knock being his 18-ball 31 in the last T20I.

Shimron Hetmyer: 6/10

81 runs @ 40.50, SR: 132.78

The batsman was called to take part in just three games, but ensured he played a part in the series win. He scored a quick 61 off 36 in the second T20I after three quick wickets, which helped West Indies post 196-4 on the board.

Dwayne Bravo: 6/10

61 runs @ 61, SR: 138.63; 2 wickets @ 31, ER: 7.75

The all-rounder scored a vital 47 off 34 deliveries in the second game after West Indies had lost three wickets for 59 runs. He also picked up two wickets to prove that he can still be relied upon in crunch moments. He also picked up five catches throughout the series.

Andre Russell: 9/10

107 runs @ 53.50, SR: 198.14; 6 wickets @ 22.16, SR: 9.50

The all-rounder was back to his best as he performed exceptionally well with both bat and ball. Though he was not able to score 11 runs off the last over against Mitchell Starc in the only game Windies lost, overall, he was easily one of the stars of the series win.

Darren Bravo: 1/10

5 runs @ 5, SR: 71.42

Called back for the first time since March 2019, Darren Bravo just played the last game, but failed to leave much of a mark.

Fabian Allen: 7/10

38 runs @ 19, SR: 146.15; 4 wickets @ 33, SR: 7.33

The all-rounder gets most of his points for his fielding. He picked up seven catches in the five games, including two absolute screamers, and kept things in check with this spin.

Hayden Walsh Jr: 9.5/10

12 wickets @ 11.66, ER: 7

The bowler picked up the most wickets from the home team and kept things tight as well in the middle overs. His best figures were 3-23, and there were two more three-wicket hauls. He could well be a key spinner in the T20 World Cup.

Sheldon Cottrell: 6/10

5 wickets @ 22.60, ER: 7.53

Though the seamer could just pick five wickets, he appeared threatening with the new ball. Cottrell’s most expensive spell in the series was 0-32, which indicates how miserly and consistent he was.

Fidel Edwards: 2/10

1 wicket @ 32; ER: 8.34

The 39-year-old new-ball bowler, recalled to the T20I outfit this year for the first time since 2012, did not create as much of an impact, playing just two games before facing injury.

Akeal Hosein: 1/10

0 wickets; ER: 12

Having made his debut in the T20I series against South Africa, and vying for a spot in the T20 World Cup, Hosein played just one game and did not pick up a wicket.

Obed McCoy: 7/10

5 wickets @ 7; ER: 7

McCoy picked up a four-for in the very first game of the series, but played just one more game thereafter, following which he was sidelined due to injury.
