MAINE TOWNSHIP, IL- This year Diwali falls on November 4, 2021. Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists, here in Maine Township and around the world, will celebrate the holiday of Diwali. Maine Township Trustee Asif Malik along with the township Board wishes everyone a Happy Diwali. They also display signs at Township Hall, “Happy Diwali”
Diwali is one of the most popular festivals in India and is celebrated around the world by people of Indian and South Asian heritage. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness; that’s why it’s called the “festival of lights.” Diwali has become a popular festival throughout the world. The holiday is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists.
A township resident and community activist Altaf Bukhari said, “I noticed when I was driving on Ballard street, We Saw the Display sign Happy Diwali, we became so happy. The most widely celebrated religious and cultural event in Chicagoland, Diwali marks the victory of good over evil, light over dark, and the beginning of the New Year. Very very from my bottom of my heart Thanks you Trustee Asif Malik to wishing us on our special day.”
