Lohri and Sankranti at Lake County temple

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Lohri and Makar Sankranti were celebrated at Hindu Mandir of Lake County with lot of exuberance and elaboration.

The mood of the devotees was upbeat and they were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri and Sankranti. This temple is always ahead in encouraging youngsters to observe and preserve the rich Indian culture and heritage.

On January 13, Lohri Poojan was held with Pt. Anil Joshi and temple priest Yogesh performed Ma Bhagavati Pujan in the form of Ma Jwala Devi with full devotion and prayers. Devotees went in a procession, carrying all the Puja and Prasad Samagris on their heads to the temple ground. New-born babies and newly-married couples were blessed on this occasion.

Punjabi singing and dancing were performed in the auditorium by the devotees and children. Pt. Joshi Ji’s speech highlighted the importance of the festival of Lohri, which ushers the cheerful spring season bidding goodbye to the dull winter.

On January 14, the temple celebrated Makar Sankranti with temple priests greeting the devotees with their good wishes and thanked them for valuing the cultural heritage. Temple priests and many devotees performed the puja of Sun-God and Shani Deva very vibrantly and auspiciously and made offerings and thanksgiving in worship.
