Jason Day is No. 1 golfer in the World : Dr. Nilesh D. Mehta

Twenty-seven year old Jason Day, prior to BMW Golf Championship was World third-ranked golfer and No.1 in FedExCup points. On Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 4.58 PM, his marvelous performance has now propelled him to World No. 1 golfer. His goal for the day was to play smart golf without taking any unnecessary risks. “It’s a lifelong dream” said Day, to be No. 1 and now becomes Australia’s youngest World No. 1 at the conclusion of the BMW Championship. His dream came true and it was made all the more special with his wife and son cheering him on at the 18^th green at Conway Farms in Lake Forest, Illinois. He now joins Greg Norman and Adam Scott who have been crowned No. 1 in the World of Golf. By winning the BMW Championship, Day has won seven PGA Tour wins and fifth this season. With this victory, he joins a select group of players to win multiple playoff events in the same year – Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Billy Horschel and Henrik Stenson.

After a stunning 10 under through 17 holes on an abbreviated first day’s play, he did not let up the pressure on his opponents throughout the BMW Championship at Conway Farms maintaining a comfortable lead each day. His quest towards the coveted World No. 1 golfer started off in grand style on the first two days shooting terrific rounds of 61 and 63. By Day’s standards, despite a pedestrian third day round of 2-under-par-69, he continued to be the undisputed leader of the pack. His domination of the golf world at this time continues without question and the Brisbane lad once again showed his class. What Day displayed on the last day of the BMW Championship was some smart golf often resorting to some conservative measures.

“All I wanted to do is win. I have been working very hard to become No. 1”, said Day after becoming the BMW Golf Champion. Day’s margins of victories have especially been impressive. He beat second placed Daniel Berger by six strokes.

Of the “Big Three”, Day clearly stole the limelight. Of this elite bunch, Rory McIlroy’s putter did let him down. McIlroy was placed at 4^th place tied with J.B. Holmes and Rickie Fowler. McIlroy had his fortunes rise and fall with a double bogey on 10^th hole to be followed by an eagle and birdie. With four holes for McIlroy to go, he was trailing by six strokes. His hopes were dashed when his golf ball was in the water on 15^th hole. McIlroy seemed to have recovered following his ankle injury while playing this week in Lake Forest.

Jordan Spieth tried to make something happen, however, his poor performance on the back nine holes on Sunday prevented him from making an aggressive run. “To be honest, this was as poorly as I felt with my game to shoot double digits under par,” said Jordan. He further added, “ I am lacking a bit of consistency.”

Daniel Berger from Florida came second six strokes behind Jason Day. “Man, it’s pretty awesome to be headed to the TOUR Championship in my rookie year. I am just proud to the way I battled the last four days, and the last day especially. It is just a great feeling,” said an ecstatic runner up.

Now, the top thirty players at this tournament are headed next weekend to Atlanta for the final event for the FedExCup in 2015.
