The initiative taken by ISL is in keeping with its objective to help improve all aspects of football by conducting numerous theoretical as well as practical sessions. The workshop began on August 30 and concluded here on Friday, according to an ISL release.

A total of 26 AIFF match officials — 13 referees and 13 assistant referees — were trained at the workshop that focused on enhancing the knowledge, application and interpretation of the laws of the game with effective teamwork and communication amongst the officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Noburu said, "The partnership between the ISL and the AIFF has developed into a very professional and collaborative relationship putting referee development at the heart of their priorities. This is my second stint as I have trained the referees in the first ever workshop in 2014 as well."

"I have seen a significant increase in the officials' knowledge and experience which is clearly demonstrated through their higher level of interaction during the practical and theory teaching sessions."

The workshop included sessions on topics that were segregated into new interpretation of laws, teamwork in match officials, management skills and field training.
