Indian Student Sameer Kamath Determined to Have Died by Suicide

LAFAYETTE, IN – The death of 23-year-old Purdue University student Sameer Kamath in Indiana has been determined to be a suicide, according to a statement from the county coroner’s office in the US.

Sameer Kamath was discovered at Crow’s Grove Nature Preserve in Williamsport, with the cause of death identified as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Warren County Coroner Justin Brummett stated, referencing preliminary autopsy findings.

A forensic pathologist conducted an autopsy on Kamath’s remains on February 6 afternoon in Crawfordsville.

“After extensive investigation by the Warren County Coroner’s Office, in collaboration with several local and federal agencies, we are now able to disclose a preliminary cause and manner of death,” the statement read.

Kamath was enrolled as a doctoral student in Purdue University’s Mechanical Engineering Department.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office previously stated that there is no danger to the public and that they are leading the investigation into the incident.
