Indian auto makers report positive sales in June

New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) Automobile manufacturers reported some positive sales numbers for the month of June.

 

Sales of India’s largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki grew by 33.5 percent, including exports, for June at 112,773 units from 84,455 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

The company’s domestic sales zoomed by 31.1 percent to 100,964 units during the month under review as compared to 77,002 units sold in the corresponding month of last year.

Maruti Suzuki exported 11,809 units last month, which was an increase of 58.4 percent from 7,453 units sold overseas during the corresponding month of 2013.

Sales in passenger cars segment, which comprises brands like Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star, WagonR, Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire, Celerio and SX4, inched higher by 32.3 percent at 86,223 units sold from an off-take of 65,172 units in the corresponding month of 2013.

However, Chennai-based automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor’s sales in the month under review fell by 7.6 percent at 50,518 units from 54,665 units in the corresponding month of last year.

The company’s domestic sales during the month under review grew by 9.5 percent and stood at 33,514 units – up from 30,610 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

Exports last month crashed by 29.3 percent at 17,004 units – down from 24,055 units shipped out during the corresponding month of last year.

“Hyundai with a volume of 33,514 units, has grown by 9.5 percent over last year on the success of Xcent, Grand and Santa Fe," said Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Hyundai Motor India.

"With the extension of excise duty benefit, we hope to maintain the growth in volume while strengthening our product portfolio and improving channel efficiencies.”

Other major players in the Indian auto market, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported a drop in sales.

Tata Motors’ total sales, including exports, in the month under review fell by 27 percent at 38,557 units last months from an off-take of 52,712 units in the corresponding month of 2013.

The company’s domestic sales, including commercial and passenger vehicles, in the month under review too declined. The off-take fell by 29 percent at 34,743 units from 48,716 units sales in June 2013.

The company’s exports during the month under review fell by five percent and stood at 3,814 units from 3,996 vehicles shipped-out during the corresponding month of 2013.

M&M’s off-take last month was marginally up 0.99 percent at 38,471 units from at 38,092 units in the corresponding month of last year.

Domestic sales stood at 36,457 units during last month, as against 36,2074 units during June 2013, an increase of one percent.

The company’s exports during the month under review grew by seven percent at 2,014 units from 1,885 units being shipped off in the corresponding period 2013.

Japanese-Indian car joint venture Toyota Kirloskar Motor closed last month with a total sales of 13,394 units down 2.97 percent from 13,805 units sold in June 2013.

In a statement, the company said it sold 12,010 units last month in the domestic market, with a growth of nine percent as compared to 11,010 units sold in June 2013.

Another Japanese automobile major, Honda’s sales during the month under review grew by 75 percent at 16,316 units as against 9,297 units sold during June 2013.
