MADISON, WI- A man from Madison, Wisconsin, has been charged with the firebombing of a pro-life center in May 2022. Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury, 29, has been charged with attempting to cause damage by means of fire or an explosive, according to a press release from the Department of Justice. Investigators had reported that during the attack, vandals threw a Molotov cocktail inside the Wisconsin Family Action building and then started a separate fire when it failed to ignite.
The building was also tagged with graffiti reading “if abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either.” Roychowdhury was arrested in Boston earlier this week while attempting to travel to Guatemala City, and his appearance in federal court in Madison is pending. The DOJ said it identified him as a possible suspect after matching DNA collected from the crime scene to DNA taken from trash that law enforcement observed him discard. The FBI’s Counterterrorism Division also condemned the use of violence to express disagreement, stating that “violence is never an acceptable way for anyone to express their views or their disagreement.”
